Stock·ton   (stŏk'tən)   
A city of central California on the San Joaquin River south of Sacramento. Settled in 1848 just prior to the gold rush, it is an inland port and a trade and processing center. Population: 290,000.
Stockton, John Born 1962.  
American basketball player drafted by the Utah Jazz in 1984. Beginning in 1987 he led the National Basketball Association in assists for a record nine consecutive seasons.
