a metal made by rolling gold on brass, used in making costume jewelry.
Also called Abyssinian gold.


Origin:
1865–70; < German Talmigold counterfeit gold, partial translation of French Tal. mi-or, shortening of Tallois demi-or literally, Tallois half-gold, a copper-zinc alloy with a thin gold coating, named after a 19th-century Parisian inventor
