any of several plants belonging to the genus Torenia, of the figwort family, native to Africa and Asia, having two-lipped, usually blue or purple flowers.
Also called wishbone flower.

< Neo-Latin (Linnaeus), after Olof Torén (1718–53), chaplain to the Swedish East India Company; see -ia
