In a highly typical form it is found covering the villi of the small intestine (fig. 1).

On the mucous surface of the small intestines are a number of small projections, called Villi.

Shedding of the diseased horn and removal of the pressure exerted by the hoof faces us with hypertrophy of the exposed villi.

The nutriment supply is secretion, in the first place, of the uterine glands, which these villi easily absorb.

Afterwards these elements are supplied by cells which lie between the fœtal villi and the blood of the mother.
