town ("parish"), West Wiltshire district, administrative and historic county of Wiltshire, southern England. It was noted as "Westberie a royal manor" in Domesday Book (1086), the record of the land survey ordered by William the Conqueror. The first mention of the town as a borough occurs in 1442-43, but its borough status was lost in 1886. The nearby Westbury White Horse-a figure, of unknown origin, of a giant horse cut in a chalk hillside-was reshaped in 1873. All Saints' Church in the town is Norman, with later additions.
