The county is drained by the Quinebaug, Natchaug, and Shetucket rivers. Other waterways are Quaddick Reservoir and Alexander and West Thompson lakes. Recreational areas include Natchaug and James L. Goodwin state forests and Mashamoquet Brook and Beaver Brook state parks.
