Surmullet, sur-mul′et, n. a mulloid food-fish of the genus Mullus, with two long barbels on the throat.

In the goatfish and surmullet the two chin barbels are highly specialized.

The red surmullet of Europe (Mullus barbatus) has been long famed for its delicate flesh, and may perhaps be placed next.
