Word Origin & History
slob
1780, "mud, muddy land," from Ir. slab "mud," itself probably borrowed from Eng. slab "muddy place" (1610), from a Scand. source (cf. Icelandic slabb "sludge"). The meaning "untidy person" is first recorded 1861.
